Jordan (Scott county) Advocate: Last Friday afternoon the prolonged blasts from the whistle on Nicolin's mills called the attention of our citizens in that direction, when it was ascertained that the barn on the premises occupied by John Piemeisel was on fire. The barn was soon consumed and with it a quantity of hay, corn and poultry.

Brewery |
- According to the book (page 269) Land of Amber Waters by Doug Hoverson - John Piemeisel bought the Johann Baptist Karl (John Carl) brewery in New Ulm, Minnesota in 1887 and made renovations. The brewery was a three story brick building (Photo on page 269).
"The brewery lay idle for several years until John Piemeisel purchased it in 1887 and began renovations. Piemeisel did not remain long and moved to New Prague, where the brewing business was much less crowded. In 1890 Fred Behnke leased the building to bottle Hauenstein's beer until his new builing was finished.
American Breweris II includes a listing for John Piemeisel in New Ulm for 1879-1884, but these dates conflict with local reports of the conversion of the brewery into a malt house and its subsequent idleness, and according to the census, Piemeisel was in Jordan working at Fred Heiland's brewery in 1880."
On page 200 is listed a brewery in New Ulm of Karl/Hall/Piemeisel (1865-1871).
On page 235 - "When Fred Heiland died in 1881, Kate Heiland took over management of the brewery. She continued to operate the brewery with the help of skilled brewers - first John Piemeisel, who would later brew in New Ulm and New Prague, and later William Koschel, who had previously worked for Jacob Schmidt in St. Paul. Heiland's son John eventually became active iin the management of the brewery as well. By the turn of the century, the brewery featured an extensive network of lagering caves excavated from the bluff behind the brewery, evidfence of the expanding business of the firm."
On page 261, is listed the Kokes & Piemeisel brewery (1895-1898) and then Piemeisel & Rybak (1898-1904).
"Thomas Kokes and Albert Menars (Menaks) started brewing on the Scott County (north) side of New Prague in 1884. The rapid changes in owernship suggest that Kokes leased his brewery to Menaks or that he was in need of financial backing. His need for financial help was at its greatest in 1894, when the brewery was destroyed by fire. After rebuilding, Kokes remained in business for three years, and which John Piemeisel and Mathias Tybak laid the groundwork for its tansition to New Prague Brewing Co., which, according to Gresham's History of Nicollet and Le Suer Counties, was again owned by Thomas Kokes. The company remained in operation until Prohibition, after which it converted to ceral beverage and soft drink production under the name of Rybak and Heimen (Hemen)."
